Very brief profile
Aug. 21st, 2018 12:15 amJust since she's from the lesser-known branch of a famous franchise, to clear up any confusion she's a character from the Slayers novels, specifically around novel 13. The anime diverges altogether from the novel plots around novel 9 so she's extremely obscure. Memphis is the elven apprentice of the golden dragon Milgazia, who appeared briefly in NEXT, and helps him out on his quests. The pair joins forces with Lina's party during their fight against the army of the mazoku lord Dynast Grausherra.
Memphis has lived a sheltered life raised by elves and dragons and has no experience interacting with humans (except for a single 'unknown' person who was almost certainly Naga the White Serpent, which was no help whatsoever in socializing her); she puts on a lot of ridiculous airs and has zero tact to the point where even Lina (Lina Inverse!) finds her excessively blunt and unsparing of the feelings of others. Combined with the way she treats Lina's party as being irrelevant deadweight in combat this causes a lot of friction between the two and their squabbling takes up most of the scenes she appears in.
Memphis is essentially the 'hope of the elves and dragons', a champion intended to counter Xelloss and avoid a repeat of the Resurrection War where he proved that seemingly overwhelming numbers of dragons and mages were helpless against the strongest mazoku. As a result of this role she's incredibly aggressive and confident. That said she is on the young side for an elf, around 100, and she lacks the experience of actually fighting such godlike opponents - perceiving the immense astral form of Grausherra paralyzes her where the likes of Milgazia and Lina are able to carry on despite the awareness of the absurd difference in scale with their opponent.
